Bahamas

The Bahamas are slightly cooler than other Caribbean island groups owing to their proximity to the continental North American cold air systems. May to October is the rainy season. The hurricane season is from June to the end of November.

The climate of the Bahamas is subtropical to tropical, and is moderated significantly by the waters of the Gulf Stream, particularly in winter. The average temperature varies from 21° C during the winter to 27° C during the summer, and extremes seldom fall below 16° C or rise above 32° C.

Prevailing winds, coming from the northeast in winter and from the southeast in summer, lend a cooling influence to a generally humid atmosphere. Hurricanes present something of a threat during the period from mid-July to mid-November and have occasionally caused great destruction.
